Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is Amsterdam’s most iconic art and history museum, home to masterpieces by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and other Dutch masters. Located on Museumplein, the museum displays over 8,000 artworks and artifacts that tell the story of the Netherlands from the Middle Ages to today. Highlights include Rembrandt’s The Night Watch and Vermeer’s The Milkmaid, showcased in the stunning Gallery of Honour.

The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ premier museum of art and history. Located on Museumplein in the Amsterdam-Zuid district, it showcases more than 8,000 works drawn from a collection of roughly 1 million objects, spanning 800 years from the Middle Ages to the present day.

What to Expect

  • The museum invites visitors on a sweeping journey through Dutch culture, from medieval times to modern art, with signature works from masters like Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh.
  • Among its highlights is The Night Watch by Rembrandt, displayed in a special gallery, as well as The Milkmaid by Vermeer.
  • The layout includes a central Gallery of Honour, where many of the most celebrated works are displayed in sequence.
